Health Initiatives SWOT Analysis Presentation
Health Initiatives SWOT Analysis Presentation
Â
Managers use many tools to assist in decision making. The SWOT analysis is used across industries and can be particularly useful to the health care administrator. It provides administrators with a clear and concise deliverable of the internal and external factors that could affect their initiative by listing and organizing a project’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (Minnesota Department of Health, n.d.).
For this Assignment, you continue to develop your Community Needs Assessment by preparing a SWOT analysis for the initiative you proposed in Week 3. Health Initiatives SWOT Analysis Presentation
To prepare for this Assignment, review your proposed initiative from Week 3.
The Assignment
Develop an 8- to 10-slide PowerPoint SWOT analysis presentation based on your proposed initiative from Week 3. In addition, include detailed speaker notes on each slide or a 2-page executive summary, submitted as a Word document.
Your presentation should include the following:
- An analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of your proposed population health initiative
- An analysis of the role of social and economic determinants in assessing your selected community’s needs
- An assessment of the direct and indirect financial consequences for your proposed initiative

SECTION TWO: Proposal Outline – Final Project Initiative Proposal
Write 2-3 paragraphs comparing and analyzing your city or county data with US data (or your country).
The analysis above shows that there are several differences between the data about Jackson, MS, and the US as a country. The first indication is that the population of the two places is composed of both similar and different qualities. For example, the county has a larger population of children aged below 5 years as compared to the rest of the country. The figures indicate that the county has fewer people aged 65 years and above as compared to the country at large. The meaning of this data is that there are more children born but the death rate is higher. This is confirmed by the data on life expectancy that shows that the county’s expectancy is 74 years as compared to that of the entire country, which is at 78 years. The data can be interpreted to mean that more children die in the county as compared to the average number of deaths among children in the country. Health Initiatives SWOT Analysis Presentation
The other indication is that the county has a small percentage of people who are non-native as compared to the rest of the country. It is an indication that there has been a low number of immigrants in the county as compared to many other parts of the country. The number of people who die from different diseases is also different but there are many relative trends. It means that the county’s health system is similar to that of the US. The data from the CDC is used to make decisions and advise on the distribution of resources based on the prevalence of diseases. The data can be used to achieve this goal. More people in Jackson live in poverty as compared to the rest of the country. The assumption is that the economic conditions in the county are relatively poor and this can be used in choosing the economic incentives to use.
State the health issue you are choosing for your population health initiative (one-two sentences):
The health issue that should be tackled in the county is heart disease.
Explain why you chose this health issue (one-two paragraphs):
The reason for choosing it is that it is the leading killer disease and this means it affects a large number of people in the county. Heart disease is a common challenge in most of the countries today. However, little is known about the exact number of people affected by the disease every day. In Jackson, a town with a large population, heart disease kills more than seven thousand people every year. The data shows that there are many people affected by the disease every year and many of them are the elderly. The county needs to take action to prevent it.
As noted above, there is a large number of people living below the poverty line in the county. The situation could be changed if the life expectancy is improved and if the government spends less money on health and more money on infrastructure and the creation of jobs. The data can be used to analyze the parts of the town that are affected and create strategies to reduce the prevalence of the disease. The disease is also associated with lifestyle trends. The concern on it will be useful in educating the public on how to manage their lifestyle and observe the diets.
Describe your chosen population. Be specific by providing demographics to fully explain your population (provide two-three sentences to explain why these demographics are important):
The chosen population is the people aged above 65 years.
The data above shows that heart disease is the leading killer disease. It is one of the reasons why life expectancy is at 74 years. The concentration on this disease will improve the demographics of the county.
List and describe three objectives you hope to accomplish with your initiative (one sentence for each objective). Use SMART topics as a guide. (SMART – specific, measurable, actionable, reasonable, time-bound)
1. Increase life expectancy by 2% in one year – the goal will be achieved if heart diseases reduce.
2. Reduce mortality rate by 4% in one year – most of the deaths will reduce if heart diseases reduce.
3. Improve the economic performance of the county by 3% in one year – A healthier population will work more than now.
Describe two-three activities you will use to accomplish each of these objectives (one-two sentences for each activity).
Three Activities for Objective 1: Arrange for 10 kilometers marathon
Invite all people to register for the marathon.
Get donors to support.
Use the money collected to support fight against the heart disease.
Three Activities for Objective 2: Plan for education about diets.
Print flyers
Distribute freely across the county.
Hold campaigns to educate the public about heart diseases and their prevention.
Three Activities for Objective 3: Invite the state government to support health programs.
Write to the federal department of health to seek authority.
Invite the local leaders to increase the resources allocated to health.
Invite donors to work with the government to support the health programs.
