Health information technology has gone a long way in enhancing patient experience and safety in the healthcare industry. Healthcare information technology comprises applications of information procedures involving computer software and hardware that is concerned with the storage, sharing, retrieval, and use of health information, knowledge, and data for effective communication and decision-making. Alotaibi and Federico in their article “The impact of health Information technology on patient safety†provides an explicit review and explores the current and available empirical evidence on the effect of various health information technologies on enhancing patient safety by minimizing medication errors, reduce substantial drug reactions, and emphasizing on compliance guidelines during practice. The article dives into providing comprehensive insights that address the critical role of health information technologies in improving patient experience and satisfaction. The authors reveal the critical role played by medical information techniques encompassing E-prescribing, Electronic physician orders, automated medication dispensing cabinets, and patient data management systems. What is more intriguing is an in-depth description of telemedicine and how it impacts patient safety thereby enhancing satisfaction. The use of telehealth has become widespread in various healthcare facilities due to the advance in health information technology. Many hospitals strive to improve patient outcomes by integrating various information technologies. Kruse and her peers in their systematic review of telehealth and patient satisfaction narrow their scope to telehealth and its impact on effective communication and decision making. In their article, “Telehealth and Patient Satisfaction, the authors explore the relationship between telemedicine and patient fulfillment in regards to efficiency and effectiveness. In particular, the authors reviewed 2193 articles related to their topic under investigation and affirmed that integration of telehealth in the provision of patient care resulted in improved outcomes, ease of use, improved communication, and reduced travel time. The paper is critical to the study as it provides profound acumen in establishing the impact of telehealth in managing patient experience and visits thus improving their outcomes (Kruse, Krowski, & Rodriguez, 2017).

Similarly, Polinski and her co-authors attempt to assess a patient’s satisfaction with and preference for telehealth visits by undertaking a cross-sectional patient satisfaction survey. In their review article “Patient Satisfaction with and Preference for Telehealth Visits,†the researchers revealed that telehealth helps medical professionals to provide healthcare services through the use of video imaging and other technologies. While the quality of telehealth visited has been constantly compared to conventional face-to-face visits, telehealth brings an additional benefit of improved quality outcomes concerning patient safety, privacy, confidentiality, and delivery. The author further analyzes the factors and attitudes attributed to patient’s preferences for receiving medical care through telehealth visits while comparing with the traditional office visits. The paper is important and relevant to the study as it provides a cornerstone for gaining knowledge about improving telehealth programs that focus on providing high-quality, and accessible primary patient care. Research indicates that people living in remote regions have difficulties accessing healthcare services. Therefore, most individuals are forced to travel long distances to seek medical services or undertake routine medical check-ups and treatment. Orlando, Beard, and Kumar, in their article, focus more on reviewing the role played by videoconferencing as a telehealth method that improves communication and enhances access to medical services to individuals living in inaccessible regions of a country. The paper provides a comprehensive assessment of the level of satisfaction of both patients and caregivers living in distant areas regarding the use of videoconferencing as a model of service delivery. In particular, the authors ascertain that videoconferencing has managed to retain the benefits of conventional face-to-face appointments reinforced by real-time visual communication, an essential antecedent for clinical observation, rapport building, and sharing of information and resources associated with the healthcare services provided to the patient. The article is vital to the study as it provides valuable and inherent information regarding the crucial role of telehealth in enhancing access to medical services especially to vulnerable groups such as individuals in distant regions.
